BLOOMINGTON, Ind.  – Trailing at half, No. 13/12 Maryland used a dominant third quarter to take a double digit lead to win at No. 18/22 Indiana, 79-69, Thursday night. The Terrapins (19-4, 10-2 B1G) won their eighth straight game and fifth over a ranked team this season.

The Terrapins trailed the Hoosiers (18-6, 8-4) by as much as 10 in the first half, then went on an 18-5 run in the third quarter to flip the script. Maryland outscored Indiana 47-31 in the second half.

"It felt like at halftime, we hadn't played our best basketball and we were only down six," head coach
Brenda Frese said. "We felt like if we locked in and had great attention to detail, good things were in store for us. I thought the mentality, the energy, went to another level."

Kaila Charles led the way with 21 points, 11 boards and four assists. Freshman
Ashley Owusu scored 19 points, 15 in the Terrapins' strong second half.
Blair Watson and
Taylor Mikesell each scored 10 points.

Indiana made nine of its first 12 shots to take a 23-19 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Hoosiers shot 59 percent from the field in the first 20 minutes (16-for-27). They took their biggest lead at 36-26 with 6:24 to play in the second quarter. Indiana led 38-32 at halftime.

Maryland came out in the third quarter and got back to back buckets from
Shakira Austin to start the 18-5 run. A layup and the foul by Owusu with 6:56 left in the third gave Maryland the lead at 41-39. After Indiana tied it up, Charles scored in transition, then Mikesell hit a three to push it to a five-point Maryland lead at 46-41.

Six Terrapins scored in the third quarter, led by Owusu with seven points and Charles with six. Maryland led 58-49 at the end of the quarter.

Indiana got within four three times in the first few minutes of the fourth quarter. A jumper by Charles put the Terrapins up 68-61 with 3:57 to go and the Hoosiers never got closer.

Maryland is 9-0 all-time vs. Indiana and 4-0 at Assembly Hall.

Charles was named a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award and to the Wooden Award Midseason Top 20 List this week.

Mikesell hit 700 career points in Thursday's game and now has 708 in her 57 career games.
The win is Frese's 74th over a ranked team in her 18 years at Maryland.

Charles has started in all 126 games of her career. Charles has a chance to break Alyssa Thomas' record of 135 career games started. Charles' 126 career games started are fifth in Maryland's record book.
Stephanie Jones has played in 125 career games.

Next, the Terrapins will return home to College Park for a pair of contests. Maryland will host Rutgers (17-5, 7-4) Sunday at noon at the XFINITY Center, the Terrapins will host No. 20/20 Iowa (19-4, 10-2) Thursday at 6 p.m.
