COLLEGE PARK, Md. -  The No. 9 Maryland men's basketball team looks to clinch the Big Ten Championship Sunday afternoon as it hosts No. 25 Michigan for a noon tip on FOX. The Terrapins will celebrate the careers of seniors Anthony Cowan Jr., Travis Valmon and Will Clark.

STORYLINES

• With a win, the Terps would claim their first Big Ten Championship and first conference title since winning the ACC regular season in 2009-10. Overall, it would be Maryland's seventh conference regular season championship. Maryland's last outright title was in 2001-02.

• All-American candidate Anthony Cowan Jr. is set to play his final game in XFINITY Center, having started a program record 129 consecutive games. Cowan will finish top-5 in program history in assists, minutes, free throws, 3-pointers and starts (see page 5). Cowan is only the second player in Big Ten history (Talor Battle) to record 1800 points, 500 rebounds and 500 assists.

• All-American candidate Jalen Smith has recorded a double-double in 12 of his last 13 games. His 19 double-doubles rank third nationally and is tied for the 4th-most in program season history. Over his last 13 games, Smith is averaging 17.7 points (56% FG), 11.9 rebounds and 2.5 blocks. He is also shooting 82-percent from the  line during that span.

• Sophomore Jalen Smith was recognized by a pair of major national awards committees Thursday, being named a semifinalist (top-10) for the Naismith Player of the Year Award and a finalist (top-5) for the Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Award. It marks the second straight year Maryland has had a finalist for a national positional award (Bruno Fernando - Abdul-Jabbar Award).

Anthony Cowan Jr. (573) needs to make just four free throws to pass Keith Booth (576) to become Maryland's all-time leader in free throws made. Cowan ranks third in Big Ten history in the category. Cowan's recent consecutive starts record was also previously held by Booth.

• Maryland is 15-1 at home this season, and is looking to win 16 home games for the seventh time in history and the fourth time in the Mark Turgeon era. Maryland leads all Big Ten teams with 45 wins at home since the start of 2017-18, as Ohio State trails just behind with 44.

• Maryland head coach Mark Turgeon boasts a 72-40 (.642) career record in Big Ten games. The win percentage ranks fifth among coaches with 50 wins over the last 40 years, trailing only Bo Ryan (.717), Bob Knight (.700), Tom Izzo (.692) and Thad Matta (.658).
