"I am honored to have our program partner with two tremendous organizations in VOYCENOW and Dream Big to help our local community," Maryland head coach Sasho Cirovski said. "I am so proud of what Zack Steffen and Alex Crognale have built with VOYCENOW and I am excited to bring them together with Dream BIG to make a difference in the Baltimore and D.C. communities as well as our own backyard here in Prince George's County. Our players are fully behind this event and we appreciate any support our Maryland fans and beyond can give!"
Donations to the event, a virtual 10K run, will support the children of the Boys and Girls Clubs of America in Washington D.C. and Baltimore, the Prince George's County Boys and Girls Clubs and the Cherry Hill district of Baltimore. Supporters are encouraged to run, bike or run wherever they can, but are not required to do so. Any donation of support is greatly appreciated.
The VOYCENOW Foundation was founded by former Maryland and current Manchester City goalkeeper Zack Steffen and former Maryland and current Birmingham Legion defender Alex Crognale in direct response to the ongoing fight for equality. The two former teammates have built a network of 100-plus professional athletes in soccer and throughout the sports world to join them in their efforts. Today, VOYCENOW has donated over $50,000 to their Minority Education Fund, a fund dedicated to providing critical educational resources for children of color.
Dream BIG works with a community mandate to coordinate, fund, and deliver best-practice, place-based pre-K through young adult learning that enables under-resourced young people to choose with dignity their own path to healthy, happy lives. Dream BIG currently uses its place-based approach in Baltimore's Cherry Hill community.
The Maryland men's soccer program is one of the best in the country. The program has won four national titles and boasts many of American soccer's best players past, present and future. The program has also been a staple of the local community, topping the country in attendance in 2019. Led by Cirovski, the program has also led on a variety of issues including its support of LGBTQ awareness and mental health awareness.
