Terps Fall to No. 3 Rutgers, 1-0

PISCATAWAY, NJ -- Despite controlling the tempo and pace for the majority of the game, No. 8 Maryland (9-5, 1-4) fell to No. 3 Rutgers (11-2, 4-1) in a grueling 1-0 battle Friday afternoon in New Jersey.
 
A Rutgers penalty stroke by Milena Redlingshoefer in the 33rd minute was the difference. The Terps peppered the Scarlet Knights' goalie Gianna Glatz with 15 shots and forced her to make 12 difficult saves, but in the end could not crack her or the Rutgers defense. 


Notable Numbers
  • Freshman Hope Rose led Maryland with a game-high eight shots, with all of them coming on goal. 
  • Julianna Tornetta was second on the team with three shots, with Margot Lawn chipping in two. 
  • Overall the team had a 15-6 advantage in shots and a 12-4 advantage in shots on goal.
  • Despite conceding the penalty stroke, goalie Noelle Frost was strong in net saving three shots.  She surpassed the 201 career saves mark.
  • Maryland also held a 6-0 advantage in corners.

  • Head coach Missy Meharg sits at 599 career wins during her illustrious Maryland career.
  • With her 599 wins, The Maryland Athletics Hall of Famer is the all-time winningest coach in Maryland athletics history. 

Familiar Face
  • Rutgers head coach Meredith Civico played at Maryland under Meharg. 
  • She helped the Terrapins advance to the NCAA Final Four for three straight seasons and helped them win the 2005 ACC title and the 2005 NCAA National Championship.
