COLLEGE PARK, MD – Ryan Blumberg's magical header lifted No. 7 Maryland (12-3-1, 5-2-1 Big Ten) past No. 22 Indiana, 2-0, at Ludwig Field Sunday afternoon.
In his first career start and second career appearance, Blumberg was the hero as his header off of a corner kick gave the Terps a 1-0 lead in the 49th minute.
Ben Bender, who got the assist on Blumberg's goal, would add another just seven minutes later to clinch both the match as well as the No. 2 seed for the Big Ten tournament.
A scoreless first half was not without its moments as a combination play sprung the Hoosiers on a breakaway, but Maryland goalie
Niklas Neumann came off of his line to stone the Indiana (12-4-1, 5-3 B1G) opportunity. Maryland had several opportunities of its own with
Ben Bender and
Joshua Bolma each getting quality chances, but neither could find the back of the net. The half ended with another Hoosier breakaway and after Neumann was beaten, defender
Chris Rindov made a miraculous save on the goal line to preserve the tie.
