Terps Split First Two with Purdue

LEESBURG, Fla. - Maryland softball took the series 2-1 against Purdue after taking game three 8-1 on Friday. 

GAME 1
  • After a quiet four innings, the Terps exploded with four runs on four hits in the bottom of the fifth
    • Gracie Voulgaris starting things off for Maryland with a single through the left side, setting her up at first
    • Megan Mikami came in for Voulgaris, and advanced to second after a Ruby Butler popped up to first 
    • After Michaela Jones walked, Jojo McRae stepped into the box for the Terps and proceeded to double down the line to send Mikami home to tie Purdue 1-1
    • Jaeda McFarland then added a single of her own up the middle, advanced to second, and brought McRae and Jones home 
    • The Terps wrapped up the bottom of the fifth with a single up the middle from Taylor Okada, bringing McFarland all the way back around to put Maryland up 4-1 
    • Sophomore pitcher Trinity Schlotterbeck pitched a full game for Maryland, and remains undefeated for the season at 4-0 
GAME 2
  • Maryland and Purdue went scoreless through the first five innings
  • After Taylor Liguori reached first on an error, Merissa Borkowski came in for the Terps and quickly stole second 
  • Regan Kerr stepped into the box and tripled to center field, bringing Borkowski home to put Maryland up 1-0 in the top of the sixth
  • Purdue was able to hold off the Terps in the top of the seventh, and put on two runs of their own to take the game 
GAME 3
  • Jaeda McFarland went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Courtney Wyche tossed a complete game 
  • Maryland got on the board early in the bottom of the first, with McFarland tripling to left center, bringing Regan Kerr home
  • Taylor Liguori entered the box for the Terps and brought McFarland back around after a bunt to put Maryland up 2-0 
  • Purdue put up a run of their own in the top of the fourth, but Maryland answered with another five runs to head into the the fifth up 6-1
  • In the bottom of the sixth, Gracie Voulgaris got to first after a single up the middle, stole second, and came all the way back around for the Terps when McFarland notched a single of her own

Maryland will begin a three game series against Iowa with a double header on Saturday, March 13 at 10:00 AM.
