NORTHWESTERN STORYLINES
TAKING ON THE NATION'S TOUGHEST
- According to the NCAA's NET ranking system, Maryland has played the 8th-toughest schedule in the country. To date, the Terrapins have played a nation-high 14 Quad 1 games, winning four such games on the road (Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Rutgers). Maryland is one of six schools nationally with at least four Quad 1 road wins, joining Michigan, Illinois, Iowa, Ohio State and Alabama.
DEVASTATING DEFENSE
-
The Maryland defense has not allowed an opponent to score more than 61 points in eight of its last 10 games. Over its last 10 games, Maryland's opponents are averaging just 59.2 points on 37.0-percent shooting, including 30.5-percent from beyond the 3-point arc. Maryland's defensive field goal percentage during that 10-game span is the best in the Big Ten Conference.
SERIES HISTORY
-
Maryland is 10-2 all-time against Northwestern, including five consecutive victories. The Terrapins have won all four meetings at Welsh-Ryan Arena since joining the Big Ten in 2014-15. In last season's trip to Evanston, the Terps memorably rallied from a 14-point halftime deficit to win by 11 points as future NBA lottery selection Jalen Smith had 25 points and 11 rebounds.
WINNING WAYS
- The Maryland basketball program ensured its 28th consecutive winning season with its victory over Michigan State. It is the fourth-longest active streak in the country, trailing only Kansas, Arizona and Kentucky. Kentucky's streak is in jeopardy, however, as it currently has an 8-14 record through March 1. It also marked Mark Turgeon's 19th consecutive winning season as a Division I head coach.
