COLLEGE PARK, Md. -Â The No. 7 Maryland women's lacrosse team will travel to No. 3 Northwestern for a weekend top-10 series between the Big Ten's two best teams. The Terps and Wildcats will play on Saturday, March 27 at 12:00 p.m. EST and Monday, March 29 at 1:00 p.m. EST. Monday's game will air live on the Big Ten Network with Dean Linke and Kara Lentz on the call.Â
NORTHWESTERNÂ STORYLINES
LOCKDOWN LIZZIE
- A two-time IWLCA Third Team All-American and the No. 14 ranked player in all of lacrosse by Inside Lacrosse, redshirt senior Lizzie Colson leads the Maryland defense with her 119 career groundballs, 270 career draw controls and 73 career caused turnovers.
- Colson has been named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week two weeks in a row and this week was named the Inside Lacrosse National Player of the Week and the IWLCA National Defensive Player of the Week after totaling 16 draw controls, nine groundballs and six caused turnovers this past weekend against Ohio State.
- The graduate student leads the country, averaging three caused turnovers per game (18).
HISTORIC HANNAH
- Attacker Hannah Leubecker has starred for the Terps offensively through six games this season, leading the Terps with 28 goals, the most goals by a Terp through six games since at least 1993.
- Leubecker stands seventh in the country, averaging 4.67 goals per game.
- In the Terps two weekend series against #17 Michigan and Ohio State, Leubecker scored 10 goals and 12 goals respectively, last week totaling 13 points (12 goals, one assist).
- The sophomore has two seven goal games and has a hat-trick in five out of six games, while leading the Big Ten with a .609 shooting percentage.Â
DOMINATE THE DRAW
- Maryland has dominated in the draw circle through six games, winning 62.3-percent of all draw controls, the sixth best mark in the country and the best mark in the Big Ten.
- The Terps have won the battle in the draw circle in four of six games this year and this past weekend against Ohio State, won 30 of 43 draws. Shaylan Ahearn is leading the effort in the circle with 21 draws while Lizzie Colson and Libby May are cleaning up outside the circle with 28 and 21 draws apiece.
- Colson stands third all-time in program lore with 272 career draw controls.Â

- The Terps will play a Big Ten only schedule in 2021, playing each of the six conference opponents twice over the course of the season.
- Since Maryland joined the Big Ten in 2015, the Terps are 33-1 in conference play with five Big Ten Regular Season Championships.
- Including the postseason, the Terps are 43-3Â against Big Ten competition since 2015.
SERIES HISTORY
- Maryland leads the all-time series with Northwestern, 17-7.Â
- Maryland and Northwestern last met on the biggest stage in lacrosse, the 2019 Final Four, when the Terps scored 25 goals to beat the Wildcats 25-13.
- Brindi Griffin notched a career-high seven points on six goals and one assist to pace Maryland to a 25-13 victory over Northwestern, leading wire-to-wire, and scoring its most goals as a team since netting 25 against Quinnipiac on March 11, 2004.Â
