COLUMBUS, Ohio. - Despite tying things up in the second against the Buckeyes, the Maryland softball team was outscored 9-1 on Sunday in its final game against Ohio State.
The Buckeyes were first to get on the board after a wild pitch sent their runner on third home to put them up 1-0 early. Maryland was quick to respond in the following frame, earning a run on two hits from
Micaela Abbatine and
Katie Dustin to tie things 1-1.
Despite another two hits from the Terps in the top of the third, the Buckeyes were able to add on another run in their appearance to put them up 2-1. Ohio State then loaded the bases, but a flyball to center field and a catch from
Jaeda McFarland ended the inning before they were able to get anything else going.
Abbatine was able to get on base with a walk, but a ground out to third base on the following play sent the Terps to defense. In the bottom of the fourth, the Buckeyes tallied another six runs on six hits including a homer to put them over the edge, 8-1.
Despite a second hit from McFarland in the top of the fifth, it wasn't enough to stop Ohio State. They added on one more run to end the day, and took the series 3-1 overall.
