No. 9 Terps Battle But Fall To No. 7 Boston College, 3-2

DURHAM, NC – A back-and-forth affair saw No. 9 Maryland and No. 7 Boston College exchanging goals in the first half, but it was the Eagles who managed to come out on top, 3-2. Goals from defender Riley Donnelly and forward Margot Lawn kept the Terps in the game but they just couldn't crack Boston College's final line of defense.

Most of the action came in the first half as both teams raced up and down the field trading opportunities but after halftime, the action slowed considerably. The final 15 minutes was a defensive battle where neither team could gain much momentum.

The Terps were buzzing early in the 4th quarter with Julianna Tornetta and Mayv Clune both having chances but neither could get on the board. Maryland kept the pressure on the rest of the quarter but even after pulling goalie Noelle Frost, they couldn't find the equalizer.

Missy Meharg's Take
"This is a very strong BC team in a strong conference. We played a great third and fourth quarter. Maryland needs to start strong and be responsible in our backfield for man to man marking. We've been working a lot at getting under aerial balls and I thought BC took advantage of us there. They actually scored a goal right off an aerial ball. Super proud of the third and fourth quarter."

Third Time's The Charm
  • The Terps were awarded a third straight penalty corner after the first two were deflected away by the Eagles defense.
  • Bibi Donraadt managed to find Riley Donnelly who rocketed a shot into the net, giving Maryland their first goal of the afternoon.

Transfer Connection
  • A great pass from graduate transfer Julianna Tornetta found Louisville transfer Margot Lawn who easily put the ball behind the Boston College goalie.
  • The assist was Tornetta's first career point as a Terp and was Lawn's second career goal for Maryland.

Iron Women
Up Next
  • Maryland will take on the No. 12 Duke Blue Devils on Sunday afternoon to finish the Big Ten/ACC Cup.
  • The Terps currently hold the series lead 34-13-3 over their old ACC rival.
