COLLEGE PARK, Md. -Â The Maryland men's soccer program will partner with the VOYCENOW Foundation for the second annual Maryland/VOYCENOW Run for Equality set to take place Saturday, Feb. 12. The two organizations will also collaborate with the Dream BIG Foundation and Maryland's women's soccer team.
DONATEÂ
The Maryland soccer teams will participate in a 5K run at Ludwig Field on Feb. 12, as the programs will do a "5K for $15K" after doing a "10K for $10K" at the inaugural event in 2021. A virtual event, supporters are encouraged to run, bike or walk wherever and whatever distance they can, but are not required to do so.Â
Supporters have the option to donate freely or donate as a sponsor of any of Maryland's men's and women's soccer players. Any donation of support is greatly appreciated and 100 percent of proceeds will directly support the growth of youth programming throughout Maryland.
Donations to the event will support the children of the Boys and Girls Clubs of America in the greater Washington D.C. area and Baltimore, the Prince George's County Boys and Girls Clubs and the Cherry Hill district of Baltimore.Â
"In conjunction with VOYCENOW, our women's soccer program and Dream BIG, I'm excited to announce the second annual 'Run for Equality'," Maryland head coach Sasho Cirovski said. "We were thrilled with the success of last year's event and the impact it had on our local community. We appreciate any support our Maryland fans and beyond can give this event."Â
"We are beyond honored and excited to run it back and host the second annual Run for Equality with our fellow Terrapins, this time including the women's soccer team," said Alex Crognale and Zack Steffen of VOYCENOW. "The impact the University and the community had on us has made us who we are today and we are grateful to be in a position to give back. Last year we surpassed our goal and we are looking forward to raising even more this year."
"I'm proud to partner with our men's soccer program and VOYCENOW on the second annual Run for Equality," Maryland women's soccer head coach Meghan Ryan Nemzer said. "What Sasho, Zack and Alex have started aligns with the values of our program and we are excited to raise money and make an impact on the local community."
The VOYCENOW Foundation was founded in 2020, during historic civil rights protests across the U.S. and globe, by professional soccer players and University of Maryland Men's Soccer alumni Zack Steffen and Alex Crognale. In conjunction with fellow University of Maryland grad, Christopher Korte, the VOYCENOW Foundation operates as a platform for community events, youth mentorship and nonprofit fundraisers, and features over 150 professional athletes across six sports. Formed as a community of professional athletes and fans speaking up for equality and justice, VOYCENOW has now raised over $135,000 through the VOYCENOW Minority Education Fund to help educate disadvantaged youth, and is currently supported by national organizations such as the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
