Ayala Scores 22 in 83-64 Loss at Michigan

ANN ARBOR, MI – The Maryland men's basketball team dropped an 83-64 contest to the Michigan Wolverines on Tuesday night at the Crisler Center. The Terps (9-9, 1-6) struggled to contain the Wolverine offense and had multiple scoring droughts throughout the night. 

Eric Ayala led Maryland in scoring with 22 points, while Donta Scott finished with a season-high 19 points. Julian Reese (10 points) also scored in double figures. Ayala scored 20 of his 22 points in the second half alone. 

Michigan (8-7, 2-3) was led by Hunter Dickinson's 21 points, six rebounds, and six assists. 


Double-Figure Update
  • Ayala (22 points) has scored in double-figures in 14 games this season and now has 65 in his career. He has scored 10 or more in 10 consecutive games. 
  • Scott (19 points) scored in double-figures for the 12th time this season and 35th time in his career.
  • Reese (10 points) had his fifth career game in double-figures. 

Eyes on Ayala 
  • Ayala moved into 29th on the all-time scoring list at Maryland with 20 points in the game. He now has 1,286 as he passed Bob Kessler, who scored 1,266 from 1953-56. Next on the list is Maryland legend Joe Smith, who scored 1,290 points from 1993-95
  • Ayala also hit two 3-pointers to give him 195 in his career, good for fifth all-time. Next on the list at No. 6 on the list, passing Eric Hayes, who had 196 from 2006-10.

First Starts As Terps
  • Graduate student Xavier Green and sophomore Ian Martinez made their first career starts as members of the Maryland basketball team on Tuesday night.
