UNIVERSITY PARK, PA – The Maryland track and field teams had a successful first day of action at the Penn State National Open. Several athletes earned podium finishes including Chelsey Cole (triple jump), and Angel Nkwonta (weight throw) who were victorious in their respective events. Complete results from day one can be found here. Day two of the Penn State National Open is set for a noon start time tomorrow.
Women's Notes

Senior Chelsey Cole (40-7 ½) earned a first place finish in the triple jump. Her mark was enough to earn the fourth best score in program history for the women's triple jump.

Graduate student Angel Nkwonta took home first place in the women's weight throw (66-5 ¾) for the second straight week. Nkwonta holds the program record in the women's weight throw.

Jaida Smith (7.71s) raced to a third place finish in the 60m dash.

Graduate student Alice Barnsdale (62-2 ½) earned a top five finish in the weight throw.

Kattiana Ealy-Pulido earned a fourth place finish in the 60m hurdles (8.58s).

Sophomore Madison Depry opened her meet competing in the 60m dash (7.88)

Sarah George set a new personal best in the weight throw (16.53m)
Men's Notes

Junior Caleb Dean took home second place in the 60m hurdles, setting a personal record of 7.82s, the second fastest time in program history.

Tommy Adebayo (8.29s) raced to a sixth place finish in the 60m hurdles.

Junior Joseph Ewan (6.85s) earned a fifth place finish in the 60m dash for the Terps squad.

Freshman Matthew Bigelow made his debut for the Terrapins competing in the pole vault.

Kamari Trotz (6.93s) competed for the Terps in the 60m preliminary round.

"We have some good momentum coming off of the performances tonight. Always great to get some victories and podium finishes to start off a competition."
