COLLEGE PARK, MDÂ - The Maryland men's basketball team seeks its second straight win when it faces Rutgers at Jersey Mike's Arena Tuesday evening.
The Terrapins have collected three Quad 1 victories this season, and are one of five teams in the Big Ten Conference to hit that mark as of Jan. 22: Wisconsin (6), MSU (4), Purdue (3), OSU (3).
RUTGERS STORYLINES
B1G WIN at home
- The Terrapins picked up their second ranked victory of the season when they defeated then-No. 17 Illinois, 81-65, Friday night in College Park.
- Junior Donta Scott was sensational in the effort, pouring in a career-high 25 points on 9-of-12 shooting.
- It was the most points for a Terrapin who came off the bench since Diamond Stone scored 39 points against Penn State on Dec. 30, 2015.
Ayala WATCH
- All-Big Ten senior guard Eric Ayala is just three points away from becoming the 29th player in Maryland history to record 1,300 career points.
- He is also currently tied for sixth in program history with Eric Hayes (196) in career 3-pointers made.
- He is looking to pass Jake Layman (198) and then become the fifth player in program history to record 200 3-pointers.
REELING IN RANKed WINS
- Maryland is one of five schools nationally to win at least four games against ranked teams in each of the last three seasons (2018-21), joined by Kansas, Michigan State, Purdue, Iowa and Michigan.
- Of those teams, only Maryland, Purdue and MSU have recorded at least two ranked wins this year.
LIVING AT THE LINE
- Maryland currently leads the Big Ten in free throws made (296) and ranked second in free throws attempted (397), and ranks 9th and 16th in the country, respectively, in each category.
- The effort has been led by Fatts Russell and Eric Ayala, who both rank in the top-10 in the Big Ten in free throws attempted.
GETTING THE LEAD
- Maryland has led in the second half in seven of its eight Big Ten Conference contests.
- In fact, Maryland has led in the second half of 17Â of the 19Â games it has played this season.Â
SERIES HISTORY
- Maryland carried an 11-point advantage into the halftime break before ultimately falling to Rutgers, 70-59, in their first meeting on Jan. 15 in College Park.
- The Terrapins are 9-3 against the Scarlet Knights since both programs joined the Big Ten in 2014-15, including a 4-1 mark in Piscataway.
