Maryland (3-2, 0-0 Big Ten) vs No.2 Penn State (8-0, 0-0 Big Ten)
Jan. 7 // 7 PM
XFINITY Center Pavilion (College Park, MD)
COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The University of Maryland wrestling team returns to XFINITY Center Pavilion on Friday January 7 to begin Big Ten action against No.2 Penn State.
Maryland is rolling on a three-dual winning streak dating back to December 4 victories over Drexel and Duke. This is the first time the team is entering Big Ten play over .500 since the 2017-18 season.
The team continued the momentum on the first weekend of the New Year as Kyle Cochran went 5-0 on his way to the 184-pound Southern Scuffle Title. He defeated three consecutive ranked wrestlers in the quarters, semis, and finals. This week he has been named Big Ten Wrestler of the Week and USA Wrestler of the Week. Cochran will have a marquee bout on Friday against top-ranked Aaron Brooks.
Jaron Smith also placed Seventh at the Southern Scuffle. Smith will have a tough test on Friday against either All-American Max Dean or Scuffle Finalist Michael Beard.
Due to Maryland Athletics' new Covid-19 policy there will be no concessions at Friday's dual. Masks must still be worn at all times.
The duals will be streamed live on B1G+. Fans can also follow the action by following the program's official Twitter account @TerpsWrestling.
