COLLEGE PARK, MD - After a week off to celebrate the holiday season, the No. 21 Maryland men's basketball team returns to action on Thursday night to host UMBC at the XFINITY Center. The Terps enter this week at No. 21 in the USA Today Coaches Poll and are receiving votes in the AP Top 25 Poll. The game will be televised on ESPNU starting at 7 p.m., while fans can also listen to the Maryland Sports Network (105.7 FM - Baltimore, The TEAM 980 AM - Washington, D.C., One Maryland App) with Voice of the Terrapins Johnny Holliday (play-by-play), Chris Knoche (analyst), and Walt Williams (analyst) calling the action.

The Terps snapped a three-game skid with a 75-45 win over Saint Peter's last Thursday paced by 20 points from Hakim Hart. The Retrievers enter the game having won six straight, but will be playing their first game in an 11-day stretch. The game will also be the final non-conference contest of the season for the Terps before heading back into Big Ten play starting Jan. 1 at Michigan.

Maryland enters Thursday's game at No. 23 in the current NCAA NET rankings. Maryland has a Quad 1 win (Miami) and a Quad 2 win (Illinois). A total of 13 games for Maryland are currently Quad 1.

Series History - UMBC

Fear the jahmir
  • Jahmir Young is closing in on becoming one of 13 active players in the NCAA to post 1,500 career points, 500 rebounds, and 300 assists.
  • Entering the season, many questioned Jahmir Young's ability to translate his scoring from C-USA to Power 5 play. Young's response has been a team-best 14.4 points and 3.3 assists per game. To date, he has a pair of 20-point games including a season-high 24 against then-No. 16 Illinois. In the stretch of Illinois, Wisconsin, and No. 7 Tennessee, he averaged 19.7 points. He is also the fourth-leading rebounder (4.4) and has the fourth-most blocked shots (8) on the team.
  • Young is the nation's ninth-ranked active career scorer with at 16.4 point per game average and the 47th ranked player in overall points (1,594).
