COLLEGE PARK, MD - Coming off a tough loss at Wisconsin on Tuesday night, No. 13 Maryland jumps back into non-conference play to take on No. 7 Tennessee on Sunday at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Sunday's opening tip against the Volunteers is slated for 4:30 p.m., and the game will be televised on FS1. Fans can listen to the Maryland Sports Network (1300 AM - Baltimore, The TEAM 980 AM - Washington, D.C., One Maryland App) with Voice of the Terrapins Johnny Holliday (play-by-play) and Chris Knoche (analyst) calling the action.
The Terps dropped a tough 64-59 road decision on Tuesday night at Wisconsin. Jahmir Young scored a game-high 17 points, while Julian Reese put together a 10-point, six-rebound performance. Donta Scott notched nine points, 10 rebounds and three blocks (tying his career high).
After entering the week at No. 6 in the first release of the NCAA NET rankings this season, Maryland goes into the Tennessee game at No. 15 in the most recent update. The Terps have a pair of early Quad 1 wins (Miami, Illinois) as well as a Quad 2 win (Saint Louis) to bolster the early resume. In the KenPom analytics, the Terrapins also checked in at No. 19 to start the week.
This marks the second consecutive season the Terps are playing in the Basketball Hall of Fame Invitational as last season Maryland defeated No. 20 Florida at Barclays, 70-68, on Dec. 12, 2021. Maryland has played at Barclays five times, going 3-2, also winning two games in the Barclays Classic in 2016, playing UConn in 2013 and playing in one of the first college basketball games at the venue back in 2012 against Kentucky.

- This will mark the first time the two teams have meet since the 1984 Great Alaska Shootout where the Terps won 72-49.
- The all-time series is tied 2-2 with Maryland winning the the 1984 and 1980 meetings.
- In the win over Tennessee at the Great Alaska Shootout, Terrapin great Len Bias scored 25 points while adding 10 rebounds.
- The 1980 meeting was an 86-75 win over Tennessee in the Greensboro Coliseum in the NCAA Tournament as Greg Manning Sr., scored a game-high 28 points.
1,000 Point Production
- With Donta Scott reaching the 1,000 point mark for his career earlier this season, Maryland's 59 all-time 1,000 point scorers ranks as the 10th most among all schools and is tied with UCLA.
- The Terps have three 1,000 point scorers on this season's roster but Jahmir Young (1,559 pts) and Don Carey (1,286 points) hit the mark at their previous institutions.
- Scott now has 1,058 career points. He is also the 17th Terp to post 1,000 points and 500 rebounds in a career. He passed current Oklahoma City Thunder swingman Aaron Wiggins (1,052) to currently sit 54th in all-time scoring.Â
Terps Have Four Averaging Double-Figures
- Maryland features four players averaging in double figures so far this season. Led by Jahmir Young's 15.3 points, Donta Scott is just behind at 14.7 per game. Hakim Hart (12.8) and Julian Reese (12.3) round out the quartet.
- Hart, Reese, and Scott are all averaging career-best scoring totals to begin the season.
- The win over Coppin State featured three players scoring 20-or-more points in a game for the first time in 20 years: Julian Reese (24), Hakim Hart (22), and Jahmir Young (21).
- Maryland has a 17.0 scoring margin which ranks 23rd nationally.Â
Scott Reaches 1,000 Points; Eclipses 500 Boards
- Donta Scott became the 59th player in program history to reach 1,000 points in the win over Miami. He scored 24 points in that game and now has 1,049 career points. He is also the 17th Terp to post 1,000 points and 500 rebounds in a career. Through 103 career games he now has 551 rebounds.
- Darryl Morsell (1,090 points / 510 rebounds / 2018-21) and Anthony Cowan (1,881 points / 508 rebounds / 2017-20) were the most recent Terps to post 1,000/500.
- In addition to currently ranking 54th in all-time scoring, Scott's 551 rebounds put him 37th all-time alongside Indiana Pacers forward Jalen Smith.
- Scott was one of 20 players named to the Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Watch List as announced by the Basketball Hall of Fame in late October.
- This is Scott's second year on the watch list after also garnering the honor last season. He joins Jalen Smith (2019-20) and Jake Layman (2014-15) as Terps to be recognized.
- Scott ranked as the No. 49 overall player nationally last season.

- YOUNG GUN - Jahmir Young's 15.3 points per game is tied as the 18th-best single-season average for a guard at Maryland since 1992-93. In the Big Ten era, he is the tied as the 6th-highest scoring guard for the Terps.
- TERPS PLAYING AHEAD - In a total of 360 game minutes this season, Maryland has trailed a total of 40:58 on the year - prior to the Wisconsin game that total was just 8:07. Prior to Wisconsin, the largest deficit of the season was three points against both Coppin State and Illinois. The Terps led wire-to-wire against Western Carolina, Binghamton, Saint Louis, and Louisville. Niagara's only lead of the game last 17 seconds, while Miami led the Terps for a total of 1-minute, 25 seconds.
- DEFENSE GENERATES OFFENSE -Maryland is forcing 12.9 turnovers per game which has translated to 16.1 points off turnovers. Nearly 21 percent of the Terps offense has been generated from turnovers.
- DYNAMIC DUO - Donta Scott and Jahmir Young have combined for 30-or-more points in six games this season. The pair combined for a season-high 37 against Miami (24 for Scott, 13 for Young). At Louisville they combined for 33 points, while against Illinois, they combined for 36 (24 from Young).
- PLAYING WITH HART - Among Maryland players dating back to 2010-11, Hakim Hart ranks 12th in Player Efficiency Rating (23.6), 12th in true shooting percentage (.685), and 3rd in Box Plus Minus (10.5) - he and Julian Resse are the only current Terps among the top 12Â in all three areas.
