COLLEGE PARK, MD – The No. 2 Maryland men's lacrosse team dominated No. 8 Loyola, beating the Greyhounds 20-8 Saturday thanks to a 10-goal second quarter. Logan Wisnauskas continued his strong start to the season for the Terps (2-0), accounting for three goals and three assists for six points. Face-off specialist Luke Wierman had a career-day, winning a career-best 19 draws, scooping a career-high 11 ground balls along with a career-high in points (3) for his first-ever multi-goal game.

Keegan Khan had a goal and four assists for five points. Jonathan Donville (3G, 1A), Anthony DeMaio (2G), Eric Malever (3G) and Owen Murphy (2G) also added multi-goal games.

Maryland's 10-goal second quarter was the first time the Terps had 10 goals in a quarter since Feb. 22, 2014, when Maryland outscored Syracuse 10-2 in the second quarter in a 16-8 victory at the Orange.

Coming off last week's 21-13 win over High Point, Maryland has scored 20 goals in consecutive games for the first time since the 1995 season, when the Terps beat Cornell (20-12) and Radford (26-3).

It is the first-ever time Maryland has scored 20 or more goals in the first two games of a season – in Maryland's 97 seasons of men's lacrosse.

Maryland scored its most goals against Loyola since 1959, when the Terps beat the Greyhounds, 22-4.

Loyola (0-1) had multi-goal games from Adam Poitras (two goals, two assists) and Riley Seay (two goals).

Breaking Down The Action

The Terps owned the first period, outscoring Loyola, 4-2. Goals by Donville, Malever, Wisnauskas, and Jack Koras.
Maryland would pour it on in the second period, more than tripling up the Greyhounds with a 10-3 goal advantage. Wisnauskas and Wierman had two goals in the quarter, while the other six goals came from six different players: Donville, Jack Brennan, Khan, Kyle Long, Daniel Maltz, DeMaio and gave the team a 14-5 lead heading into halftime.
Malever opened the scoring for the Terps in the third quarter, while Demaio and Owen Murphy scored as well. Murphy's goal came as time expired in the quarter on a quick restart. The Terps defense was stout as it allowed just one goal in the frame.
Murphy, Donville and Malever added goals for Maryland in the fourth quarter pushing the Terps to the 20-goal plateau.

Wisnauskas Watch

With his three goals, Wisnauskas notched his 28th career hat trick as a Terp.
Wisnauskas's three goals gives him 152 for his career, trailing only Jared Bernhardt (202), Matt Rambo (155), Joe Walters (153)
Wisnauskas is third all-time in career points in Maryland history with 251. Next on the list is Matt Rambo's 257 points scored between 2014-17. Bernhardt leads with 290 points.
The Sykesville, MD native has tallied a point in all 58 games of his collegiate career and has the most eight-point games in school history with six.

Wierman's Wonderful Day

Face-off man Luke Wierman had a career-high 19 face-off wins as he was 19-of-25 at the X on Saturday.
Wierman had a career-high 11 groundballs.
He also scored two goals, the first-multi goal game of his career. He only scored two goals his entire 2021 season.
He also added an assist for a three-point day.

Hard Work For The Hard Shells

Logan McNaney made six saves on the day for the Terps while Drew Morris stopped four.
Matt Rahill and Murphy led the team with two caused turnovers. Ajax Zappitello, Roman Puglise, Bubba Fairman, Jake Higgins, John Geppert, and Joshua Coffman each accounted for one caused turnover.
Geppert and Brett Makar had four groundballs.
