No. 9 Terps Dominate Season Opener in 20-6 Win

PHILADELPHIA, PA –The No. 9 Maryland women's lacrosse team crushed the St Joseph's Hawks, 20-6, on Saturday afternoon at Sweeney Field to open their 2022 season.

"Great start for the Terps, really proud of our effort today," said head coach Cathy Reese. "We saw a lot of great things from a lot of great people. We had 11 different scorers, a bunch of assisted goals and all three of our goalies played well. It was a lot of fun to get back on the field and compete against a different opponent we haven't faced. Good day for the Terps."

Aurora Cordingley led the blistering for the Terps (1-0) attack as she finished with a game-high five goals, all of which were scored in the first half. The team's 20 goals are the most it's scored since the 2019 Final Four when they beat Northwestern 25-13 in the Semifinals.

Along with Cordingley's five goals, Victoria Hensh (three goals), Kate Sites (two goals), Libby May (two goals), and Jordyn Lipkin (two goals) finished with multi-goal games. Eloise Clevenger finished with a team-high four assists.

The Terps dominated in all phases of the game as it outshot the Hawks 41-20 and won the draw control battle 22-6, behind 10 from a career-best 10 from Shaylan Ahearn and nine from Abby Bosco in her Maryland debut.

Along with Cordingley and Lipkin, Hailey Russo and Shannon Smith scored their first goals as a Terp.
