WACO, TX – Two RBI's each from Matt Shaw and Maxwell Costes, and a towering home run by Bobby Zmarzlak lifted the Terps to a 9-4 win over the Baylor Bears. Ryan Ramsey pitched six innings for the Terps (2-0), giving up just two runs and striking out three. 

Shaw also collected four hits on the afternoon and played a clean game at shortstop. Leadoff hitter Luke Shliger reached base four times for Maryland, collecting three walks and scoring two runs and an RBI walk with the bases loaded in the ninth.    

Reliever Sean Heine entered for Ramsey, pitched two innings, walked one and gave up just one run, and left the bases loaded in the eighth after a pop-up to Troy Schreffler Jr. Nigel Belgrave pitched the final three outs for the Terps, giving up two runs and striking out one.

Baylor's batting average from a year ago, Jared McKenzie (.389), was held hitless on Saturday afternoon.


Notable Numbers

• Shaw's four hits are a new career-high, with his previous high of three coming against East Carolina on 6/6/2021. 
• Shliger stole two bases, matching his career-high which came last year against Northwestern on 4/24/2021. He also matched his career-high of three walks, last done against Northwestern on 4/25/2021. 
• Zmarzlak's home run in the third inning ballooned the lead to 5-0 and was the team's first home run of the season. It was his first homer since his two-home run performance against Norfolk State on 6/5/2021.
