No. 24 Maryland Shuts Out Siena, 7-0, Pitchers Post 16Ks

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Ryan Ramsey, Noah MrotekNigel Belgrave and Andrew Johnson combined for a three-hit shutout as No. 24 Maryland blanked Siena, 7-0, on Saturday afternoon to sweep a doubleheader at Bob 'Turtle' Smith Field. The quartet of pitchers combined for 16 strikeouts. The Terps are now 15-3 this season. 

Ramsey had his second consecutive game where he did not allow a run and struck out double-figures as he allowed one hit again and recorded 11 strikeouts on the heels of 13 Ks in his last start. The trio of pitchers (Ramsey, Mrotek and Belgrave) combined to retire 11 batters in a row via strikeout from the fourth to the eighth inning. 

Chris Alleyne went 2-for-3 with his fifth home run of the season. Bobby Zmarzlak went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. 

Nick Lorusso went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Maxwell Costes and Troy Schreffler Jr. drove in the other runs for the Terps.

Alleyne Stays Hot
• Alleyne extended his hit streak to 11 games with all five of his home runs in that streak. 
• He has multi-hit games in five of those 11 games.

Breaking Down The Action
• The Terps took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Alleyne scored on a fielder's choice by Costes. 
• Maryland moved the lead to 3-0 on a Schreffler Jr. run-scoring single to bring home Zmarzlak. The Schreffler scored on a wild pitch for the three-run advantage. 
• Ramsey held a no-hitter into the fifth inning allowing a lead-off hit. 
• The Terps tacked on two more runs  as Zmarzlak drove in Lorusso and then Schreffler's sac fly brought home Costes for a 5-0 lead. 
• Alleyne blasted a homer in the bottom of the seventh to make it 6-0 then Zmarzlak's single brought home Costes for a 7-0 lead.
