Jason Savacool struck out a career-high 14 batters and allowed just one hit as No. 24 Maryland hit four home runs as the Terps swept a weekend series from Siena, 19-2. The Terps (16-3) had shutout the Saints for 17 consecutive scoreless innings over the last two games of the series.
The 19 runs were a season high and the most Maryland has scored since beating Penn State, 19-10, on March 20, 2021. Maryland had a season-best 18 hits, the most since racking up 20 against Ohio State on April 20, 2019.
Maxwell Costes,
Kevin Keister,
Sean Lane (grand slam) and
Troy Schreffler Jr., all blasted home runs for Maryland. Costes' was his high-best eight of the season and for the sophomore Keister and the freshman Lane, it was the first homer of each of their careers. Lane had the first five RBIs of his career.
Schreffler set his career-high with five hits, going 5-for-6 with a career-high tying four RBIs.
Nick Lorusso went 3-for-5 with two runs scored.
Luke Shliger,
Chris Alleyne and Keister all drove in two runs. Shliger and
Matt Shaw both went 2-for-4.
Savacool's 14 Ks are the most since Mike Shawaryn struck out 16 against Indiana on May 25, 2016. Savacool is now 4-1 on the season.
Breaking Down The Action
• After two scoreless innings, the Terps dented the scoreboard on an RBI single by Alleyne scoring Schreffler.
• The floodgates opened in the third inning with six runs for the Terps. Costes (solo) and Schreffler (two-run) each crushed homers. Shliger had a two-run RBI triple and Alleyne brought home Shliger with a sacrifice fly.
• Keister kept the good times gping with his first career homer, a two-run shot to make it 11-0 in the fifth. Lorusso doubled home Shliger and Shaw doubled in Shliger for a 13-0 advantage after five innings.
• Lane notched his second-career college hit and first homer on a grand slam to push the advantage to 16-0.
• Maryland added on three more runs in the eight inning as
Ian Petrutz doubled in
Michael Bouma, then Schreffler doubled home Petrutz and Lane singled in Schreffler.

Gavin Stellpflug finished the game in the ninth in his season debut, allowing two runs to the Saints. He struck out all three outs in the inning.
