COLLEGE PARK, MD — Ten Terps came to bat in the bottom of the fifth inning. And seven of them scored.
Capped by a Chris Alleyne two-run blast, No. 24 Maryland baseball flipped a 6-2 deficit into a 9-6 lead. And that big inning propelled the Terrapins to their 14th win of the year as they downed Siena, 14-9.
Maryland continued its dominant start to the season, improving to 14-3. It racked up double-digit runs for the fourth time all season — and this time got 10 of them over the fifth and sixth innings.
To start it off, Kevin Keister smacked one off the left-field wall in the second inning, and Troy Schreffler Jr. booked it home all the way from first. Luke Shliger, the very next batter, followed up with an RBI double of his own and gave Nick Dean an early 2-0 advantage.
But the Saints were quick to respond. They scored four runs on five hits in the third inning and tacked on two more in the fourth, jumping out to a 6-2 lead.
Then the offense exploded. Maxwell Costes, Zach Martin, Schreffler, Keister, Shliger and Alleyne all drove in runs in that fifth frame.
Siena continued to score, but that inning put the game out of reach. Maryland's offense didn't stop, most notably with a three-run blast from Schreffler in the sixth.
