COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Maryland men's golf head coach
Jason Rodenhaver has announced his retirement from his position at the University of Maryland after serving in various roles with the golf programs for the last 23 years.
"We would like to thank Jason for his more than two decades of service to Maryland with our golf programs," said
Damon Evans, Barry P. Gossett Director of Athletics. "Jason has been a mainstay with our golf programs for the last 23 years and we can't thank him enough for all he has down with both programs. He has dedicated his career to Maryland.
"In looking for our future head coach of the men's golf program, we will identify the strongest candidates and hire a dynamic leader who will build our program to be nationally competitive. I'm confident we will find an outstanding coach and educator who will help our student-athletes excel both on and off the course."
Rodenhaver took over as the Maryland men's golf head coach in 2011 and served as the Director of Intercollegiate Golf as he oversaw the men's and women's programs for three years. In the spring of 2014, Rodenhaver solely took over the men's team as a women's team head coach was hired.
"Maryland has been a huge part of my life," said Rodenhaver. "I went to school here, was a letterwinner here, graduated from here, met my wife here. This place is special to me and means everything to me. For everyone there comes a time to move on and that time is now for me, to retire and move onto the next chapter of my life. I want to thank all of the women and men who have played for me over the 23 years, all of the staff members and colleagues who have helped us on and off the course to succeed in the classroom and in life. I will always be a Terp, thank you Maryland."
In his 11 seasons guiding the Maryland men's golf programs, four Terrapins have earned eight NCAA Regional appearances and four All-Big Ten selections. This past season, the Terps finished third at the Big Ten Championship.
Rodenhaver became the first head coach of the women's golf program prior to the 1999 season. Overall, he served as the women's golf head coach for 12 years and was associated with Maryland golf as a head coach, assistant, and student-athlete for more than two decades. Rodenhaver played three seasons for the Terrapins. He was a two-year captain of the men's golf team and participated in the NCAA East Regional in his senior season.
