Chelsea Butler Named Head Coach at Wofford College

SPARTANBURG, SC - Maryland Softball assistant coach Chelsea Butler has been named the first Head Coach of the Wofford College softball program.

Butler has spent the past three seasons with the Terps, working with the pitching staff. Under Butler, Maryland's pitching staff recorded the lowest team ERA in nearly ten seasons in 2021, and junior Courtney Wyche was named a Big Ten Pitcher of the Week, the first honor for a Maryland pitcher since joining the conference in 2015. This past season, Maryland was 29-23 overall and 14-8 in the Big Ten, marking the most wins for the Terps since 2013 . Maryland's fifth-place finish in the conference was the highest since joining. Sophomores Jaeda McFarland (First Team) and Megan Mikami (Second Team) were named All-Big Ten selections.

"Coach Butler has been an amazing assistant and has been instrumental in helping Maryland Softball's growth and development over the last three years," head coach Mark Montgomery said. We are all going to miss her so incredibly much, but are so proud of her, and we are excited to watch her become a great leader of her own program!"

The Wofford College Terriers inaugural season is slated for spring of 2024.
