No. 3 Terps Fall in 2OT To No. 7 Princeton, Suffer First Loss Of Season

PRINCETON, NJ -- Princeton's Beth Yeager scored off a penalty corner in the second overtime as the No. 3 Terps (7-1) fell 4-3 to the No. 7 Tigers (4-3) in a heartbreaker.

The two squads traded goals three different times, sending the game to overtime for the fifth consecutive time between the two programs.

Belle Bressler and Hope Rose both recorded a goal and an assist apiece. The Terps took 19 shots to Princeton's 11, but ultimately came up short and suffered their first loss of the year.

Breaking Down The Action
  • The Terps struck first midway through the second quarter off a penalty corner as Bressler redirected Hope Rose's pass into the net.
  • Maryland out-shot the Tigers 6-1 in the first half and won three penalty corners to Princeton's zero.
  • Princeton evened it up early in the second half but the Terps immediately responded to retake the lead thanks to a Margot Lawn goal. Lawn took a hot pass from Bibi Donraadt into the circle and got her stick on the ball to knock it in.
  • The Tigers equalized again in the third quarter and the game was knotted at two heading into the final 15 minutes of play.
  • In the fourth quarter, Rose took a pass from Bressler off a perfectly executed penalty corner and converted at a difficult angle, shooting across her body, to give Maryland the lead again. It was Rose's eighth goal of the season, a team-high.
  • After the Tigers tied it up again, the game went to overtime where Paige Kieft made multiple massive saves to keep the game tied.
  • Yeager scored her second game of the day to seal the win for the Tigers.

Up Next
  • The Terps will play their Big Ten home opener on Friday against Michigan at 6 pm.
