COLLEGE PARK, Md -- Maryland freshman forward
Luke van Heukelum was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.
The freshman scored two goals and added three assists over the course of two matches last week. In a 6-4 win over Villanova, the Elmhurst, Ill., native tied a school record with three assists and scored a goal. He followed that up with a goal at No. 19 Michigan State. Van Heukelum now has three goals and three assists this season.
He is the first Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week since
Stefan Copetti took home the award on Nov. 1, 2022. He is the first Maryland freshman to win Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week since Sept. 17, 2018 when William James Herve won the award.
The Terrapins are back in action Friday night against Indiana, with kickoff scheduled for 8:30 p.m. The match will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network.
