COLLEGE PARK, MD - No. 9 Maryland field hockey resumes conference play on Friday, October 6 as they prepare to host Michigan State at 5 p.m. The Terps will then take a short drive to Washington, D.C. to face the American Eagles for their final non-conference match of the season. The game is slated for 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 8.

Friday's game will serve as this years' annual pink game in support of breast cancer awareness and research. Fans will be giving pink pom-poms as they enter the complex.

Parking for Friday's game will be open in the lot next to the Complex, 11B, as well as XX1, RR2 and 9B across Paint Branch Drive, will open beginning at 4 p.m. Cars parked before 4 p.m., or in other lots, are subject to ticketing. Click HERE for a campus parking map.

  • Competition between Maryland and Michigan State dates back to 1982. The Terps remain perfect against the Spartans with a 15-0 all-time series record. Head coach Missy Meharg led the team for 14 of those victories.
  • Maryland has picked up seven wins in College Park, with six of them arriving after the Terps joined the Big Ten in 2014. 
  • The most victory over Michigan State came in September of 2022. Maryland scored a series-high seven goals, dominating the Spartans, 7-2, at the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex.
  • Michigan State is one of three Big Ten teams that Maryland has never lost to. Indiana and Ohio State hold the other two slots.
  • Maryland has shut out the Spartans five times overall, three since joining the Big Ten.

  • No. 9 Maryland comes into the weekend with an 8-3 overall record. The Terps showed a resilient and dominant performance against No. 16 Penn State after falling to No. 6 Rutgers just a few days prior. Maryland clinched a 4-2 win over the Nittany Lions, earning its first conference victory of the year. 
  • Maryland has outscored its opponents 32-14.
  • The Terps rank fourth in the Big Ten in goals per game average (2.91) and points per game average (7.91).
  • The Terps have allowed only one first quarter goal through 11 games and outscore teams 10-1 in the first fifteen minutes. Eight of those ten goals happened in the first six minutes of each game.
  • The Terps are 7-2 in games where they score first and 6-1 when they lead at halftime.

  • Junior Hope Rose jumped back into scoring, tallying her tenth goal of the season. She leads the roster in total points with 21, from ten goals and one assist, and game-winning goals, with three. Rose owns the fourth-highest goals per game rate (.909) and sixth highest pointers per game total (1.91) in the Big Ten.
  • Freshman Josie Hollamon had a career day in College Park on Sunday. She posted a career-best two goals lifting the Terrapins above the Nittany Lions. Her performance, alongside her consistent presence on the backline earned her her first weekly conference award - Defensive Player of the Week. Hollamon is the first Terp to earn this recognition since Rayne Wright in October 2022. 
  • Freshman Maci Bradford continues to make a difference in big games. She scored the first goal of the afternoon against Penn State within the first three minutes of play. She owns a two-game goal streak after scoring the game-tying goal at Rutgers earlier that week. Bradford owns the highest point total of any freshman on the squad with 16, from six goals and four assists.
  • Margot Lawn tallied her sixth assist of the season against the Nittany Lions on Sunday. She continues to lead the team in assists with six and ranks fifth in the Big Ten, averaging .545 assists per game. Lawn holds the team's highest shots-on-goal percentage at .846 from 13 shots.
  • The Terps utilize the depth of their bench as they average sixteen players participating per match. 12 players have tallied at least one point on the year, including nine goal scorers.
  • Junior Paige Kieft and freshman Alyssa Klebasko continue to alternate games in the cage, as both goalkeepers have contributed to the teams three shutouts and three ranked victories. Kieft owns 20 saves on the year, while Klebasko holds a 0.846 save percentage.

  • Missy Meharg returns for her 36th season as head coach. A nine-time National Coach of the Year recipient, Meharg brings an unprecedented level of consistency and excellence to the Maryland field hockey program. 
  • Meharg became the third coach in Division I history to reach 600 wins in 2021. She is not shy of championships as she has led the Terps to seven national titles, including five in seven years, 12 conference tournament crowns, 15 conference regular season titles and 19 appearances in the NCAA Semifinals round, including 12 in the NCAA Finals.
  • She is supported by associate head coach Scott Tupper (third season), assistant coach Kasey Tapman Asper (third season) and goalie specialist Natalie Hunter Cyrus (first season).
