Petrutz Homer Lifts Terps To 5-4 Win Over Maine

COLLEGE PARK, MD Ian Petrutz blasted a homer to right field in the bottom of the eighth inning to catapult Maryland to a 5-4 victory over Maine on Saturday afternoon at Bob 'Turtle' Smith Stadium. The Terps evened their record at 7-7 with their third win in a row.

Reliever Nigel Belgrave escaped a pair of bases loaded jams in the eighth and ninth innings to preserve the victory.

Nick Lorusso clubbed his Big Ten-best seventh home run of the season and third in two days to put the Terps up 2-0 early. That homer extended his hitting streak to 13 games.

Luke Shliger and Matt Shaw each had two hits for the Terps as every member of the Terps' starting lineup had a hit.

On the mound, starter Nick Dean threw five innings, striking out four, allowing four runs. The Terps' bullpen was strong, in not allowing a run over the final four innings. Kenny Lippman, Tommy Kane and Belgrave combined to shut the door on the Black Bears (3-8).

Belgrave recorded a key strikeout with the bases loaded in the eighth and then in the ninth inning he loaded the bases with zero outs before getting Myles Sargent, Colin Plante and Dean O'Neil to strike out to end a dramatic ninth inning, He got O'Neil looking to end the game.
