Bucher Named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Freshman Keira Bucher was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the first time this season, the conference announced on Monday.

Keira Bucher played an integral role in the Terrapins' 4-0 weekend at Liberty. Bucher went 1-0 on the weekend, recording two saves in three appearances. The freshmen only surrendered one walk and one hit in her 4.2 innings of work, giving her opponents a batting average of just .071. The national saves leader now moves to eight total saves on the season in just 14 appearances.

Bucher has played a key role as a closing pitcher for the Terrapins, leading Maryland to their best start since the 2008 season. The Terps moved to 19-4 on the season, carrying a 10 game win streak into their final tournament.

This marks Bucher's first weekly honor of her career.

Maryland will be at home for the first time this season as they host the Capital City Classic. The Terps will play their first game of the tournament on Friday at 4:30 pm against North Dakota.
