COLLEGE PARK, MD - No. 11 Maryland will open up Big Ten play with a rematch of the 2022 Big Ten Championship as the Terps head up to face No. 22 Rutgers. The game will begin at noon and on Big Ten Plus.
Where we are
- The Terps are coming off a 13-4 win over Georgetown, where Emily Sterling had one of the best games of her career, making 15 saves to only four goals allowed. Sterling and the rest of the Maryland defense have allowed just four goals in two of Maryland's last three games (William & Mary). The Hoyas scored just once in the second half and went the final 28:07 of game time without a point.
- Maryland is on a three game winning streak, outscoring its opponents by a score of 50-14 in the wins. Kori Edmondson has led the offense, scoring 10 goals and adding two assists on only 14 shots. Emily Sterlng has a .641 save percentage during the win streak.
- This past week, Abby Bosco was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week and Shaylan Ahearn was named the Big Ten Midfielder of the Week.
50th Season of maryland women's lacrosse
- The 2023 season will be the 50th season of Maryland women's lacrosse, a program that has been the most successful in the entire sport since its start.
- Maryland has won 15 national championships and 31 conference championships. The Terps have participated in 28 Final Fours, including 12 of the last 13 and have won 12 of the last 28 national championships, including seven-straight from 1995-2001. Maryland has an all-time program record of 765-153-3 through 49 seasons.

big ten dominance
- The Terps have won 10 Big Ten titles (six regular season championships (2015-19, 22) & four Tournament Championships (2016-18, 22)) and 31 conference championships in total, winning 21 in the ACC (10 Regular Season, 11 Tournament).
- In seven seasons in the Big Ten (no 2020 due to COVID-19), Maryland is 42-5 in Big Ten regular season play and 52-8 overall including the Big Ten Tournament. Maryland has never lost a Big Ten home game and has gone undefeated in regular season Big Ten play in every season but 2021.
- Maryland has won 15 Conference Tournament Championships in program history, with 10 of those coming since Cathy Reese became the head coach in 2007 (six ACC, four Big Ten). The Terps took home six-straight ACC titles from 2009-14 and three-straight B1G titles from 2016-18. Reese is 26-5 as the coach of Maryland in conference tournament games.
- The Terps have won 22 Big Ten conference player of the year awards (four attacker, four midfielder, seven defender, five goalie, two freshman) in seven years in the conference. Cathy Reese has been named the Big Ten Coach of the Year four times (2016-19).

- In the game against Drexel, Shaylan Ahearn became only the sixth Terp in program history to surpass the 200 career draw control mark with 14. In the Terps game at #7 Florida, Ahearn past Dana Dobbie (2007-08) to move into fifth all-time in career draw controls at Maryland. Ahearn, who tallied 28 draw controls over the last handful of games, is now 10 draw controls behind Karri Ellen Johnson (2008-12) for fourth all-time in program history.
- Ahearn tallied 115 draw controls last season, the eighth-most in a single season in program history.
- Another Terp, Abby Bosco, also recorded her 200th career draw control in Maryland's last game at Villanova, now standing at 206 in her career. 125 of those have come as a Terp, 81 at Penn, where she played from 2018-21.

- Reese and the Terps added one of the top transfers out of the portal for the 2023 season in 2022 Ivy League Defender of the Year Marge Donovan. The grad student was the Ivy League Defender of the Year, a Third Team IWLCA All-American, a First-Team All-Ivy selection and the Ivy League Tournament Most Outstanding Player in 2022 as she graduated as Princeton's all-time leader in career draw controls (214) and draws in a season (112 in 2022).
- Maryland also welcomes the nation's top freshmen class, highlighted by the No. 1 recruit in the 2022 Class, midfielder Kori Edmondson. The class also features top-10 ranked signees Jaylen Rosga and Maggie Weisman.

- Head Coach Cathy Reese enters her 17th season at the helm of Maryland women's lacrosse. The winningest coach in program history, Reese is 308-37 as head coach and has led the Terps to five National Championships, 12 Final Fours and 22 Conference Championships.
- Maryland is 162-6 at home under Reese, with nine undefeated home campaigns in the last 11 seasons (2013, '14, '15, '16, '17, '18, '19, '21).
history vs. rutgers
- Maryland is 23-1 all-time against Rutgers, and beat Rutgers twice last season, 16-6 in College Park and 18-8 at SHI Stadium in the Big Ten Tournament Championship.
- Libby May netted five goals and also collected an assist in the Big Ten Championship win. Eloise Clevenger had a pair of goals and four assists as well.
- Abby Bosco won nine draws, Shaylan Ahearn won seven and Shannon Smith controlled four. Emily Sterling made four saves in goal.
