No. 24 Terps Fall To Big Ten Foe Indiana, 15-7

BLOOMINGTON, IN — The No. 24 Terps were topped by Indiana 15-7 in the first game of their Sunday double-header. Strong bats by the Hoosiers from the start made it difficult for Maryland to gain momentum. The Terps moved to 22-7 on the season.

After Indiana quickly converted for five runs, Kyra Pittman briefly relieved starting pitcher Trinity Schlotterbeck. Schlotterbeck was swapped back to pitcher in the third, retiring three straight batters. Schlotterbeck finished with 2.1 innings in the circle while Pittman finished with 1.2.

Amelia Lech launched a three-run shot for her second on the weekend and 11th of the year, putting her at the top of the Big Ten in home run totals.

Maryland's bats eventually heated up, keyed by a four-run rally in the fifth. Along with Lech, Megan Mikami, Kiley Goff, Jaeda McFarland, Michaela Jones, and Sammi Woods all had hits in the game, with Goff tallying two hits and Jones slapping three hits.

Breaking Down The Action
  • Indiana scored first with a three-run home run. Then, two RBI singles and a sacrifice fly brought the score to 4-0 going into the bottom of the first inning.
  • The Hoosiers added three runs in the second with a pair of home runs.
  • Lech smashed a three-run homer to put the Terps on the board in the third stanza. The blast to right center field drove in Goff and Mikami.
  • After a tough start to the game, Schlotterbeck retired three straight batters in the bottom of the third.
  • Indiana added four runs in the fourth off of two RBI doubles, an error, and a sacrifice fly.
  • Maryland staged a four-run offensive rally in the bottom for the fifth. A double by Goff, an error for McFarland, and a single by Woods initially loaded the bases. With Schlotterbeck up to bat, an Indiana error scored McFarland and Goff. A wild pitch right after allowed pitch runner Kamryn Davis to touch home. Finally, Jones slapped an RBI single to drive in Schlotterbeck.
  • After loading the bases, Indiana hit a walk off single to end the game in five innings.
Numbers To Know
  • 7: McFarland now has a team-best active seven game hitting streak.
  • 11: With her three-run shot today, Lech leads the Big Ten in home runs. Her 11 homers are also tied for the most by any Terp since the 2015 season.
