No. 24 Maryland Drops 11-4 Decision To Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, IN — No. 24 Maryland came up short against Indiana to finish out their first Big Ten series, losing 11-4. After this weekend, the Terps move to 22-8 on the season while Indiana moves to 22-9. Maryland looks to return to their winning ways at home in next weekend's Big Ten matchup against Michigan State.

Despite taking the lead early, three multi-run Hoosier homers left Maryland with an uphill battle on offense.

Courtney Wyche got the start this afternoon, tossing 3.1 innings in the circle before Keira Bucher came in for relief. After a tough fourth inning, Bucher made quick work of the Hoosiers in the fifth. The freshman pitcher finished with 2.2 innings pitched.

Senior Taylor Liguori led the Terps on offense, going 2-2 with two hits and three RBIs. Trinity Schlotterbeck also had one RBI and a run scored in the game.

Breaking Down The Action
  • Indiana got on the board first with a two-run home run.
  • The Terps scored three runs in the second to take the lead. After back-to-back walks by Mackense Greico and Michaela Jones, Schlotterbeck slapped a double to advance Jones and score Greico. Taylor Liguori added an RBI single to right center field, driving in Jones and Schlotterbeck and bringing the score to 3-2.
  • A pair of two-run homers put the Hoosiers back up in the third inning.
  • Indiana extended their lead in the fourth with two RBI singles and a sac fly, 9-3.
  • Maryland added runs in the sixth thanks to a Liguori RBI single that scored Jones from second.
  • Indiana tacked on two more runs in the sixth inning off of a two-run home run.
