Terps Drop Series Finale To Iowa, 12-8

IOWA CITY, IA – Maryland (17-10, 2-1 B1G) dropped the final game of its first Big Ten series of the season, losing 12-8 to Iowa (20-6, 1-2 B1G) on Sunday afternoon at Duane Banks Field in Iowa City, IA. Despite the loss, Maryland recorded its 15th-straight conference series win, a streak that dates back to April 2021.

Maryland catcher Luke Shliger began Sunday's game the same as he did on Saturday, hitting a leadoff homer, the sixth of his career and third this season. It's the first time as a Terp that he's hit leadoff homers in consecutive games. Shliger scored three runs in the loss for the Terps.

The Terps put together two multi-run innings in the fifth and sixth, starting with a long and loud two-run homer from Bobby Zmarzlak, his third of the season. He added a third RBI to his day with a bunt single in the sixth, finishing with three hits and four RBI.

Iowa had three-hit games from Kyle Huckstorf and Cade Moss, recording 14 hits on the day. The Hawkeyes scored nine runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to put away the game for good. The big blow of the inning came off the bat of Sam Hojnar, a three-run homer that gave Iowa a 9-6 lead at that point.
