COLLEGE PARK, MD - The Terps head back to the road for a Sunday afternoon meeting with No. 10 Illinois looking for the Terps' third straight win in the series. The game will tip at 2 PM ET and will be televised on BTN. Fans can listen to the game on the Maryland Sports Radio Network with Voice of the Terps Johnny Holliday calling the action alongside Chris Knoche.

Maryland will stay on the road after the game to take on Northwestern on Wednesday before returning home to host Michigan State on Sunday, January 21.

Terps Looking To Build Off Michigan Win

Maryland rallied for a 64-57 win on Thursday night against Michigan thanks to a season-high 22 points from Donta Scott - 20 of which came in the second half. The Terps rallied back from a 12-point halftime deficit for the win marking its first victory since 2020 (Feb. 26 at Minnesota) when trailing by double figures at the half.
Jahmir Young leads Maryland with a 19.3 point per game average followed by Julian Reese who is averaging 13.4 points and 9.7 rebounds per game. Young is the fourth-leading scorer overall in the Big Ten.
Illinois and Maryland met once last year at the XFINITY Center, a 71-66 win for the Terps, in a Top-20 match-up.
Maryland has won two consecutive games in the series and lead 14-7 all-time with a 5-2 record in Champaign.

Fear The Jahmir

After a standout season in 2022-23, Jahmir Young, one of the top point guards in the country, has racked up the preseason accolades. He has been named to the Wooden Award Preseason Top 50 and is a member of the Bob Cousy Award Watch List as well. Young was also a unanimous selection to the Preseason All-Big Ten Team, the first unanimous pick for Maryland since Cowan in 2019.
Additionally, Young picked up Preseason All-America honors from Blue Ribbon and Lindy's, while The Field of 68 had him on the All-Big Ten Preseason Team and ranked him as the No. 35 of 100 top players nationally entering 2023-24.
Last season, Young was a second team All-Big Ten selection, was named to the USBWA All-District Team, and selected to the NABC All-District Second Team. Additionally, he was chosen as the Pigskin Club of Washington Collegiate Player of the Year.
Through the start of conference play, Jahmir Young has been one of the elite scorers in the Big Ten. In league games, the guard ranks fifth overall with 21.2 points per game.
He has hit 39.3% from the floor and 84.6% from the free throw line in five conference games. In addition to his 28 rebounds and 12 assists, he has 8 steals.
This is coming off a December where Young averaged 24.2 points which was the 7th most nationally and third-best among B1G players for the month.
Young is looking to become just the sixth NCAA player since 2006 to post 1,000 points at two different institutions during his career. Prior to the the extra year of eligibility due to COVID-19, only three players had achieved the feat in the past 20 years. Young's 2,264 career points ranks 2nd among active players in the NCAA behind Max Abmas of Texas (2,818 pts).
Young leads the Terps having scored in all 135 career games played. Only six times has he been held under 5 points in that stretch. Overall, Young has 120 double-figure scoring games with 49 20-point efforts.
Young's 49 20-point games are the most among all active Big Ten players.

After a breakout sophomore campaign that saw Julian Reese become one of the top big men in the Big Ten, the Baltimore native enters 2023-24 with high praise. Reese joined Jahmir Young on the Preseason All-Big Ten Team and was named to the Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Award Watch List.
Reese showed his impact for the Terps in 2022-23 as he scored in double-figures in 22 games with a career-high 24 points against Coppin State. He had seven double-doubles on the year including 17 points, 12 rebounds at Ohio State.
Had one of his best league outings going toe-to-toe with Purdue's Big Ten Player of the Year Zach Edey where Reese scored 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting while adding three rebounds and committing zero turnovers.
Reese finished 2022-23 tied for second on the team in scoring at 11.4 points and led the Terps in rebounds (7.2).
In two NCAA Tournament games last year, Reese averaged 15.5 points against West Virginia and No. 1 Alabama.
His 63.2 field goal percentage last season stands as the third-best mark in Maryland program history for a single season.

Julian Reese has six double doubles this year after going for 18 points and 10 rebounds against Coppin State.

Donta Scott became the 59th player in program history to reach 1,000 points last season. Through 16 games this year, he now has 1,493 points and 785 rebounds. He is also the 17th Terp to post 1,400 points and 700 rebounds in a career.
Darryl Morsell (1,090 points / 510 rebounds / 2018-21) and Anthony Cowan (1,881 points / 508 rebounds / 2017-20) were the most recent Terps to post 1,000/500.
Scott is now 19th all-time in scoring and needs 69 points to move past Greg Manning (1561, 1977-81) for 18th. He needs 11 more boards to pass Al Bunge (785, 2004-08) for No. 10 all-time.
Additionally, thanks to his fifth season, Scott (130 GS - T2nd most, 4224 MIN - 5th most) will have a chance to set Maryland's games started record (136, Steve Blake, 1999-03) and minutes played record (4568, Greivis Vasquez, 2006-10). He set the games played record (142) against Coppin State on Dec. 28.
