Maryland Softball Heads To Williamsport For Girls With Games Experience

COLLEGE PARK, MD --  Maryland will return for the second straight year to Williamsport, Pa. to participate in the Girls with Game tournament hosted at the Little League World Series. The Terps, who have made four NCAA regional appearances, are set to compete against Virginia on Saturday at 2 p.m. Head Coach Lauren Karn will head into her second season as Head Coach of the Terps.  In Karn's first year with the program the Terps were able to earn two ranked wins over No. 25 Oregon and No. 22 Penn State.

Established in 2018, the Girls with Game Initiative celebrates the contributions of girls and women who have shaped the Little League program and aims to inspire the next generation of female athletes.  In collaboration with Dick's Sporting Goods, Girls with Game is celebrating 50 years of the movement, honoring all previous student athletes who have changed the game and encouraging future players to step up to the plate.

The main event of the weekend takes place on Saturday, October 12, when young softball players (ages 8-11) can participate in a three-hour clinic led by representatives from four university softball programs. After the clinic, participants will get to watch collegiate athletes compete in two back-to-back exhibition games, starting at 2 p.m. at Howard J. Lamade Stadium, home of the Little League Baseball World Series Championship. Following each of the games, participants will have the opportunity to meet the Division I College Softball athletes as part of an autograph session on the concourse behind Lamade Stadium. Limited autograph cards will be available for clinic participants, and additional items to be signed can be purchased in the new Little League Flagship Store.

The exhibition games on October 12 are open to the public, with free admission. Seating, except for reserved spots behind home plate for clinic attendees, is first-come, first-served, and no ticket is required. Fans looking to attend the event should enter the complex via East Mountain Avenue (617 E. Mountain Ave., South Williamsport, Pa., 17702) and follow the signs for parking. Parking will be available in the Volunteer Stadium outfield lot on Borderline Road. Concessions will be available, and visitors are invited to check out the new Little League Flagship Store while at the complex.

The Terps will wrap up their fall schedule on Sunday, October 13, with a doubleheader against Delaware at the Maryland Softball Stadium in College Park.

All exhibitions at the Maryland Softball Stadium are free and open to the public.
