Two Terps Homer, Wyche Pitches Shutout In 8-0 Win Over Purdue Fort Wayne

Box Score COLLEGE PARK, MD – Jaeda McFarland and Delaney Reefe launched home runs to center field and Courtney Wyche pitched a shutout as Maryland softball defeated Purdue Fort Wayne, 8-0, on Friday at Maryland Softball Stadium. The game was the Terps' first as the host of the Maryland Softball Tournament. 

Maryland (10-13) led the entirety of the game. McFarland got the Terps on the board with her first home run of the season. She finished the game 3-for-3 with two RBIs, three runs and two stolen bases.  

  Wyche pitched the 11th shutout and the 39th complete game of her career. She allowed just one hit and struck out three batters. Wyche received her fifth win of the season.

Reefe's long ball was a three-run home run and the freshman's third of the season. It allowed the Terps to take a 6-0 lead. They added two more runs shortly after. 

  Megan Mikami went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two stolen bases. Michaela Jones also finished with two hits. She went 2-for-2 with two runs scored. Sydney Lewis hit a double and drove home two runs.  
  Purdue Fort Wayne's (4-16) only hit was from Epiphany Hang.

Breaking Down The Action
  • The Terps got on the board first as Jaeda McFarland homered to center field in the bottom of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. 
  • Sydney Lewis hit a sacrifice fly in the third inning and Megan Mikami tagged up from third base to score. McFarland then scored from third on a wild pitch. The Terps took a 3-0 lead heading into the fourth. 
  • Delaney Reefe hit a three-run home run in the fourth to center field to extend the lead. McFarland then drove home Mikami with a single. Lewis doubled and McFarland scored as Maryland led 8-0. 
  • Courtney Wyche retired the final three batters for the win.
Terps In The Record Books
  • Courtney Wyche pitched the 11th shutout of her career, tying her for sixth on Maryland's all-time list with Jessica Aditays (2002-05) and Monica Cyphert (2001-04). 
  • Wyche struck out three batters in the game to increase her career total to 491 which is fifth all-time. She passed Cyphert and is just nine strikeouts from becoming one of four players to notch 500 in a career.
  • Wyche is also seventh on the all-time innings pitched list. She has pitched 510.2 innings in her career and is just 3.9 innings from passing Cyphert.
  • Wyche received her 46th win of her career which ranks sixth all-time. She's just two wins away from passing Kaitlyn Schmeiser (2012-15) and Cyphert and moving into the top five. 
  • Wyche pitched the 39th complete game of her career, which is seventh all-time. She's two away from passing Kerry Hickey (2008-11) for sixth all-time.
  • Megan Mikami broke the school's stolen bases record against Virginia on March 12. She added to her career total by stealing two bases and giving her 69 in her four seasons. 
  • Jaeda McFarland is fourth in school history in stolen bases with 58 and is only three from passing Jenny Belak (2005-08) and claiming third place on Maryland's all-time list.
