Terps Drop Game Two Against Ohio State, 6-3

COLUMBUS, OH – Maryland softball was defeated by Ohio State, 6-3, in game two at Buckeye Field on Saturday. The Terps rallied late, scoring all their runs in the final two innings. 

Maryland is now 18-26 on the season and 4-12 in Big Ten play. Ohio State improved to 26-17 overall, including 7-9 in the conference. 

Buckeyes pitcher Emily Ruck held a no-hitter through 5.2 innings pitched. She finished her say pitching 6.2 innings with seven strikeouts. Jaeda McFarland broke up the no-hitter with an RBI single to get her team in the scoring column. Sydney Lewis followed with one of her own. Delaney Reefe accounted for the other run with an RBI double in the seventh.  
  Freshman pitcher Julia Shearer pitched the second complete game of her career and tied her career-high with three strikeouts. 

Taylor Heckman led the Buckeyes with three RBIs, including a solo home run. 


Breaking Down The Action
  • Taylor Heckman homered in the bottom of the first inning and the Buckeyes took a 1-0 lead. 
  • The Buckeyes drove in two more runs in the fifth with a single. They led 3-0.
  • Jaeda McFarland broke up Emily Ruck's no-hitter with an RBI single in the sixth inning. She drove in Julia Shearer, who got on base with a walk. Sydney Lewis followed with an RBI single of her own and the Terps trailed 3-2. 
  • The Buckeyes extended their lead to 6-2 in the bottom of the inning. An RBI triple and single and a run scored on an error occurred in the inning.
  • Delaney Reefe hit na RBI double in the seventh but the Terps lost 6-3.

  • 3: Julia Shearer tied her career-high with three strikeouts.
