Maryland Falls To Nebraska To Close Series

LINCOLN, NE – Maryland baseball lost in a rubber match to Nebraska, 16-4, at Hawks Field at Haymarket Park on Sunday.

Maryland (25-16, 6-9 B1G) had the start they wanted as Kevin Keister hit a solo homer for his fifth home run of the season in the second inning. But Nebraska (25-12, 8-4 B1G), ranked No. 20 in RPI, responded with eight unanswered runs through the second and fourth innings to take a commanding 11-1 advantage. The Terps chipped into the lead but the Huskers continued to put runs on the board.

Cayden Brumbaugh went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs. Riley Silva also notched three RBIs, going 2-for-3 for Nebraska.

The Terps defeated the Huskers yesterday, 11-2.

Breaking Down The Action

  • Kevin Keister responded with a solo home run in the top of the second and the Terps trailed 2-1.
  • Nebraska scored three runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 5-1 lead. A passed ball that resulted in a strikeout allowed a runner to score from third and two RBI singles ensued.
  • Nebraska earned five runs in the fourth on a throwing error advancing a runner home, three RBI singles and an RBI triple down the infield line. The Huskers led 10-1.
  • The Huskers increased the lead with an RBI double to left field in the bottom of the fifth, pushing their lead to double digits.

  • Nebraska added the final five runs in the sixth inning, ultimately winning the game 16-4.
Coach Swope's Thoughts
"Obviously not the result you want when you have a chance to win the weekend. There were a few innings that got away from us on a couple of errors that kept those innings going. I thought we got a little bit of momentum there in the sixth with a few runs, but we just weren't able to capitalize on it. We have a big opportunity this next week, with JMU on Tuesday and then getting back home to face Illinois next weekend."

Numbers To Know
