Purdue Scores Late To Capture Win Against Maryland, 7-1

COLLEGE PARK, MD – Maryland softball lost to Purdue, 7-1, in a rubber match at Maryland Softball Stadium on Sunday. 

Neither team scored for the five innings of play until Purdue (25-23, 11-9 Big Ten) drove in the go-ahead run with an RBI single in the top of the sixth inning. The Boilermakers added three more runs in the inning and another three in the seventh. 

Maryland (20-29, 5-15 Big Ten) scored one run in the bottom of the sixth inning off a home run by Mazie MacFarlane. It was the ninth career home run and fifth of the season. 

  Courtney Wyche made her third appearance and second start of the series in the circle. She pitched six innings and struck out seven batters, adding to her season strikeout total of 209, which leads all conference pitchers. 

Jaeda McFarland went 2-for-4 with a double. Megan Mikami, Diamond Williams, Sydney Lewis and Bri Godfrey were the other Terps who recorded hits.

  • Mazie MacFarlane made a diving catch in right field for the final out of the second inning.
  • Through five innings, the game remained scoreless. 
  • Purdue broke the scoreless game with three runs on two singles and one run on a wild pitch in the sixth. They captured a 4-0 lead.
