COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Maryland Wrestling (3-0) will head north to our nation's capital to take on American (2-3) in their second-to-last nonconference dual before beginning Big Ten competition. The dual is set to start at 7:00 PM and will be broadcast on ESPN+.

Where we've been...

Maryland is heading into its fourth dual of the season, remaining undefeated at 3-0.
The Terps had a dominant weekend at the Throwdown on the Yorktown in Charleston, South Carolina (11/15), where they posted a perfect 2-0 record with wins over Gardner-Webb and The Citadel.
Against Gardner-Webb, Maryland showcased a balanced performance across the lineup, earning a 27-13 victory. The Terps were fueled by major decisions from Dominic Solis and Joey Schneck, technical falls from Dario Lemus and Branson John, and a quick pin from Jaxon Smith at 184 pounds. Michael Pizzuto added a key sudden-victory decision to help secure the win.
Maryland carried that momentum into its bout with The Citadel, earning a 24-9 win behind gritty early victories from Braxton Brown and Lemus. Jackson Young added a 4-1 decision at 149 pounds, while the upperweights dominated the dual. Solis, Smith, and John each recorded major decisions, and Oscar Williams closed out the dual with a 5-2 win at heavyweight.
The Terps then traveled to Baltimore, where they improved to 3-0 with a 39-7 victory over Morgan State (11/22). Abram Cline opened the dual with a 5-0 decision, while Brown and Mekhi Neal each added wins by forfeit. Williams delivered a technical fall at 285 pounds and AJ Rodrigues picked up a 15-2 major decision. Lemus continued his strong start to the season with a pin at 141 pounds, and John earned a dominant 19-3 technical fall. Solis sealed another win with a late takedown in the final seconds.

About the Terps

The Terps are coming off one of their most successful seasons since joining the Big Ten. Maryland set program records for points and individual placers at the Big Ten Championships, recorded its highest team finish, and secured the most regular-season dual wins in program history. A signature moment came with a victory over No. 10 Michigan — the program's first win over a top-10 opponent since Nov. 20, 2009.
At the NCAA Championships, Maryland matched its highest team point total and finish since 2014. Jaxon Smith earned All-American honors with a sixth-place finish at 184 pounds, becoming the program's first All-American since 2019. The Terps qualified six wrestlers for the NCAA Championships — their most since 2012 — including returners Braxton Brown, Branson John, and Jaxon Smith, while also setting a new program record for Big Ten dual victories.
Head Coach Alex Clemsen enters his seventh season leading the program, joined by associate head coach Nick Brascetta. Assistant coach Ethan Laird returns for his third season, while Cole Matthews has been promoted to assistant coach in his second year with the Terps.

The Lemus File

Dario Lemus has had a breakout season at 141 pounds, starting 2025 with a 3-0 dual record and an 8-2 overall mark — tied for the second-most wins on the team.
After upsetting No. 28 West Virginia's Jordan Titus at the Southeast Open, Lemus jumped from unranked to entering and remaining in the national rankings at 141 pounds.
He posted strong tournament performances early in the season, placing third in the highly competitive 141 bracket at the Southeast Open and finishing second in the top black pool at the Journeymen Collegiate Classic.
Lemus has also dominated his dual appearances, earning a technical fall over Gardner-Webb's Dom DiTullio, pinning Morgan State's Rohan Bucknor, and securing a 9-2 decision against The Citadel's George Rosas

Dario Lemus has had a breakout season at 141 pounds, starting 2025 with a 3-0 dual record.

Unbreakable Branson

Branson John has delivered a breakout season for the Terps, competing at 197 pounds for the first time after qualifying for the NCAA Championships at 174 as a freshman last year.
John currently holds a perfect 10-0 record, leading the team with five major decisions and two technical falls. He is also 3-0 in dual competition, scoring a team-high 14 dual points behind two tech falls and a major decision.
John burst into the national rankings at 197 following the Southeast Open, where he won the highly competitive bracket by defeating two ranked opponents — No. 29 Gavin Nelson (Minnesota) by an 11-4 decision and No. 27 Rune Lawrence (West Virginia) by a 12-2 major decision.
He entered the rankings at No. 22 and has steadily climbed as high as No. 16, bolstered by dominant performances and another ranked win over Navy's No. 17 Payton Thomas.
