COLLEGE PARK, MD – After being named the Big Ten Co-Player of the Week, Maryland's Diggy Coit has been named the AP National Player of the Week after averaging 36.5 points last week including an XFINITY Center all-time scoring record of 43 points against Penn State.
This is the second time this season Coit has been named a National Player of the Week. He earned the USBWA Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week honor after his 41 point effort against Mount St. Mary's.
Coit averaged 36.5 points in a split week for Maryland that included a loss at USC and a win over Penn State. The graduate guard turned in a 30-point performance at USC before breaking the XFINITY Center all-time scoring record with 43 points against Penn State.
Overall, for the week, Coit was 23-of-41 (.561) from the field and 13-of-26 (.500) from three-point range.
He is the first NCAA Division I player this season to have multiple 40-point games and the second Terp to do so since Gene Shue in 1952-53. His 30 points in the first half against Penn State marked the most in the first half by a Big Ten player in over five years.
His back-to-back 30-point games also marked the first time to be done by a Terp since Nik Caner-Medley in 2006.
Coit's nine three pointers against the Nittany Lions tied the school record for a single game, while his 43 points (14-23 FG, 9-13 3FG) were just one shy of the school record.
Against USC, he became the first since 2024 and the 26
th all-time road 30-point game in Maryland history. Coit now has 10 30-plus performances for his career which are the most for any active NCAA Division I player.
