April 10, 2002

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Freshman Haris Causevic was honored as the Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Tennis player of the week Wednesday after leading Maryland, the only team in the conference without scholarship players on its roster, to a 4-3 upset victory over NC State last Sunday. The win is the first ACC victory for Maryland in 10 years.

The Silver Spring native downed NC State's Matt Lucas at the No. 1 singles position, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (4). The win was Causevic's ninth of the season at the No. 1 spot.

In doubles play, he teamed up with senior Jonathan Murchison to defeat Matt Lucas and RJ Murray of the Wolfpack, 9-8 (5). The Terrapin duo is ranked 50th in the latest Omni Hotels Collegiate Tennis Rankings. The win marked their team-high eighth win together this season.

Maryland is 7-8 after losing a tight battle to Virginia Tuesday afternoon. They face North Carolina in the final regular season match on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Tennis Center at College Park.
