COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Maryland Head Coach Brenda Frese
On tonight's game:
"I thought, obviously, you could tell in the game, that Pitt has had a week to prepare for us and they really played with a lot of energy and really took it to us. I thought we look like we're pretty much on a WNBA whirlwind tour right now, with the schedule that we're playing. That's no excuse for how we played. I thought we played in spurts, I thought we kind of let the fatigue factor play in to our hands tonight. We're disappointed in that, in our toughness and not being able to play a 40-minute game. I thought our veterans really stood out tonight and we just have to continue to get our depth and everyone onboard together."
On Laura Harper scoring her 1000th point:
"I think it's obviously extremely special, especially the fact that Laura missed most of her freshman campaign. To be able to come out and do really what she's been able to do in two and a half seasons is truly remarkable. She plays with so much passion, just loves the game and she's never going to waste an opportunity."
On Assistant Coach Daron Park leading the team over the weekend:
"I thought he did a tremendous job in obviously two extremely challenging games on the road in adverse situations. We know that this is going to be the situation a lot this season. There's going to be more games that I'm going to miss this season."
Maryland Senior Laura Harper
On scoring her 1000th point:
"It's really special, but I'm just happy to be a part of this team. Now I just keep thinking, `Man, now we have to play defense'. I'm just really excited about getting better and being at practice and working on some things."
Maryland Senior Crystal Langhorne
On her first game back after injury:
"It was a great feeling. Someone screamed out, `Welcome back Crystal,' during warm-ups, so that felt pretty good. I'm just happy to be playing with my teammates again and just playing hard is a great feeling."
Pittsburgh head coach Agnus Berenato
On her team's performance tonight:
Compliments to the University of Maryland. There's a reason they are No. 3 in the nation. It was really exciting for me and my team to come compete against Maryland, Brenda [Frese] and her team while they were ranked No. 3, because it's a rare opportunity and it doesn't get any better than this. The game wasn't as close as the score indicated. I was very proud of my team, because there were times, especially in the very beginning of the game, when we could have folded up our tent and gone home. And I think we just kept competing. We wanted to compete on every possession, and we said if we felt like we competed, then we would have a better ride home.
On the reasons her team struggled against the Terps early in the game:
We outscored them in the second half. In the first half, I didn't think shooting was a problem, but I think it was defensive breakdowns and we were playing nervous and tentatively. When you come into an atmosphere like this you have to go with it, go hard to the basket, and score, and I thought we were missing easy shots and lay-ups. Maryland is [a group of] winners, they're champions. They're not going to roll over for anyone, you have to take it.
