• The No. 2 Maryland women’s lacrosse team will face its sixth top-ten opponent of the season as the Terps welcome the #6 Virginia Cavaliers to the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex on Wednesday. The game will be broadcasted on ESPNU at 7:00 p.m. Jay Alter and Sheehan Stanwick Burch will have the call.

• As part of Shut Out Trafficking Week, the Maryland women's lacrosse team will be hosting a food drive, in support of the University of Maryland Safe Center for Human Trafficking Survivors. Fans will receive a 50% off ticket voucher if they bring items for the food drive. The food drive will begin at 6:00 p.m. 

NOTABLE TIDBITS

• Maryland heads into this weekend’s contest with a 10-1 record and No. 2 ranking. Last week, the Terps notched two dominating wins, defeating #24 Georgetown, 17-5 and winning in Ann Arbor against Michigan, 16-9. The Terps have won eight straight games, including five against ranked opponents.

• Megan Whittle (43 goals, 11 assists) leads the team with 54 points, while Jen Giles (29 goals, 14 assists) stands right behind her with 43. Whittle leads the Big Ten in many offensive categories, including goals per game (3.91), points per game (4.91) and free position percentage (72.7%) and is second in the country in free position goals per game with 2.18, after scoring a career-best six against UMBC. Giles leads the conference in shot percentage (53.7%) and is second in the conference in points per game (3.91). Giles also ranks fourth in free position percentage (58.8%).

• This season, Maryland is 4-1 against top-ten foes, while over the past four seasons, the Terps hold an incredible 24-2 record against teams in the top ten in each of the major polls.

•  Maryland is on a 70-game win streak at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex and hasn’t lost in College Park since March 10, 2012.

• Brindi Griffin and Megan Whittle each recorded five points and Lizzie Colson tallied a career-best seven draw controls to lead the No. 2 Maryland to a 16-9 win over Michigan on Saturday afternoon.

• Maryland won the draw control battle 17-10, led by a career-best seven from Colson. Kali Hartshorn had five while Whittle had three.

• Virginia stands at 8-3 this season, holding a falling narrowly to No. 3 Boston College, 15-12 in Charlottesville ths weekend.

• The trio of Avery Shoemaker, Sammy Mueller and Kasey Behr lead the way for Virginia, scoring 32, 31 and 30 goals apiece.

• Maryland leads the all-time series with Virginia, 41-17.

• The two programs met last season in Charlottesville, with the then No.1-Terps defeating the then No.18-Cavaliers, 16-11. Caroline Steele recorded a career-high seven points (five goals, two assists), while Megan Whittle (3G, 1A) had four points. Jen Giles, Brindi Griffin and Kali Hartshorn each scored twice.

WHITTLE climbing up the all-time goal ranks

• In just 11 games this season, Megan Whittle has jumped from six to two in the Maryland women's lacrosse all-time goal ranks, tallying 43 goals. Whittle struck her 250th career goal in the Terps against No. 4 James Madison. 

• The senior attacker now has 257 goals in her career, passing Maryland greats Taylor Cummings and Karri Ellen Johnson on her path to the all-time lead this season. Whittle is just 11 goals behind Jen Adams (1998-01) for the all-time lead at 267.

CONTROLLING THE DRAW

• As a team, Maryland stands second in the the nation and leads the Big Ten in draw controls per game, with 17.27, with Kali Hartshorn and Meghan Siverson leading the charge.

• In the two games last week against Georgetown and Michigan, the Terps won the draw control battle 34-14, with Hartshorn tallying 15.

• Maryland has 190 as a team through 11 games, with Siverson and Hartshorn combining for 103 of those (54.2%).

MAGNIFICENT MEGAN

• Over the past five games, Megan Taylor has been a force in the cage. The junior has 38 saves, with only 36 goals allowed, a .514 save percentage and only 7.60 goals allowed per game. In a 13-7 win over No. 8 Penn, Taylor tied her season-high with 13 saves and recorded her highest save percentage of the season at .650.

A GLANCE AT GRACE

• As the only freshman starter on the team, Grace Griffin has taken off over the past few games. In the past three wins, Griffin trails only Megan Whittle in points (11), notching eight goals and three assists.

• In the win over No. 4 James Madison, Griffin led the team with four goals and one assist. For her efforts against the Dukes, Griffin was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week.

• This season, Maryland has received a lot of recognition, both on the conference and national level.

• The Terps have won seven Big Ten honors this season, with Megan Whittle winning Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week three times, Lizzie Colson winning Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week three times and Megan Taylor and Grace Griffin each earning Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week and Big Ten Freshman of the Week recognition once.

• On the national level, five Terps were named to the initial Tewaaraton Watch List on March 1st. Senior attacker Megan Whittle and a quartet of juniors: defender Julia Braig, midfielder Jen Giles, attacker Caroline Steele and goalie Megan Taylor were all selected for the watch list.

• Lastly, this past week Megan Whittle was named the IWLCA National Player of the Week after finishing last week with 10 points, seven goals and three assists, notching four goals against No. 8 Penn and three against No. 4 JMU.
