MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS:

- UMD Medical Tryout packet
- Copy of Insurance Card
- Proof of physical
- Proof of Sickle Cell Trait Solubility Test
PREFERRED MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- 4 years of cheer experience (high school and/or all star)
- Standing tuck
- Roundoff backhandspring tuck
- Level 4 stunting
Cheerleaders are committed to all components of the program. We are looking for members that are dedicated and invested in developing as university ambassadors, spirit raisers for Maryland Sports, and competitive in competition at our annual championship.
The cheer season is a full-year commitment. We typically host tryouts in April/May. Following tryouts there are requirements over the summer and mandatory practices before the team reports for the fall semester. Summer requirements include some appearances, and attendance to NCA College Spirit Camp in late July/early August. Members are not required to be on campus all summer but to report back for practices. All Summer dates and commitments will be communicated at tryouts upon making the team.
During the semester, we practice 2-3 times a week and have team workouts with the strength and conditioning staff two times a week. All cheerleaders should plan to have limited weekends, winter/spring breaks, and holiday breaks as games, tournaments, and nationals training often occur during those times. The cheer season concludes in the Spring Semester with the close of basketball season in April. Members are required to try out for the team each year.

**Please note that meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee that you will make the University of Maryland cheerleading team. There are several factors that weigh into team selection and final determination of the team will be made at the sole the discretion of the Head Coach.

AUDITION INFORMATION
This year’s auditions will be in two phases. All interested individuals will be required to attend Day 1 on April 29th, 2023 from 9AM to Noon in the XFINITY Center Pavilion (8500 Paint Branch Drive, College Park, MD, 20742)
Please be sure to complete the application above prior to that date.
Minimum Requirements:
- Current or prospective UMD student
- 4 years minimum of cheerleading experience at the high school or all star level or equivalent years in gymnastics or acrobatics.
- Standing and running tumbling required to audition
- Stunting experience required to audition
Attire: Athletes should wear a sports bra and spandex shorts. Hair should be styled appropriately for a collegiate game day (either all the way out or half up half down) with natural make up applied heavily and a shade of red lipstick that best suits them.
