Head coach Brenda Frese welcomed Maryland native Lindsey Spann to the Maryland women's basketball staff in the summer of 2019. After a season as the Director of Recruiting Operations, Spann was tabbed for an assistant coach role in the spring of 2020, where she enters her sixth season in the role in 2025.

In her six seasons at Maryland, Spann has helped the Terps earn a record of 149-44 (.772) and win the 2020, 2021 Big Ten regular season titles and the 2020 and 2021 Big Ten Tournament titles. Spann helped the Terrapins to four Sweet Sixteens in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2025 and the 2023 Elite Eight.

In the spring of 2021, Spann was named one of the WBCA's Thirty under 30 honorees as an up-and-coming women's basketball coach. Spann was named one of the Most Impactful Assistant Coaches in Women's Basketball by Silver Waves Media in 2022.

"Lindsey is an up and coming star in our profession," Frese said. "She immediately had an impact on our team and program from the moment she started. Her communication, organizational skills and relationships with others elevate her. I love the fact that Lindsey grew up attending our camps and grew up just down the road. She is Maryland through and through and extremely loyal to our program. I am so excited to keep her in our Maryland family."

In her first season on staff at Maryland, Spann helped the Terrapins to a record of 28-4 and a 17-game win streak to end the season. Maryland won its fifth Big Ten championship and its fourth Big Ten Tournament title since joining the league.

In 2020-21, after losing all five starters, Spann helped lead the Terrapins to an amazing season in which they went 26-3 overall, 17-1 in Big Ten play and advanced to the Sweet Sixteen. The Terrapins led the nation in scoring with 90.8 points per game en route to winning the 2021 Big Ten regular season and tournament titles.

In 2022-23, the Terrapins brought in a roster with nine newcomers after losing four of five starters to graduation and transfers. Spann and the staff implemented new systems. Picked to finish fourth in the Big Ten and No. 17 in the preseason AP poll, the Terps surpassed all expecations, winning 28 games and picking up nine wins over ranked teams, including wins over No. 6 UConn, at No. 7 Notre Dame and over No. 7 Iowa. The Terps finished second in the Big Ten and advanced to the program's first Elite Eight since 2015.

"I'm extremely humbled by this opportunity to start my coaching career at such a great university," Spann said. "I was fortunate to grow up watching Coach Frese establish such a high standard of excellence at the University of Maryland for her players and staff, on and off the court. I am very blessed to be a part of the Terp family and I'm appreciative of the opportunities Coach Frese has given me thus far. I cannot wait to get started."

Spann spent the 2018-19 season as a graduate assistant at South Carolina, where she finished her master's degree in sport and entertainment management. She played her senior season with the Gamecocks, where she averaged 10.3 points and shot over 45 percent from the field.

A graduate of Good Counsel, Spann played her first three seasons at Penn State where she earned Honorable Mention All-Big Ten honors in 2016. She scored 1,000 points in her time at Penn State. She earned Academic All-Big Ten honors three times and earned her bachelor's degree in public relations in 2017.

Spann has a son, Kai and is married to Keith Pough.
