Duke Outlasts Maryland Volleyball Team In Five-Game Thriller.

DURHAM, N.C. - In a match that lasted nearly three hours, Duke (7-9, 2-5 ACC) handed Maryland (9-11, 2-4 ACC) a 15-7, 14-16, 11-15, 15-6, 17-15 defeat in volleyball action tonight at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Beth Murphy posted a match-high 23 kills for the Terps and Carey Brennan turned in a 22-kill, 17-dig peformance. Duke countered with Dominique Phillipp and Jill Sonne each racking up 21 kills. Libby Alberts had 46 assists for Maryland and Pamela Gottfred had a match-high 59 assists for the Blue Devils.

Maryland and Duke each took two games, forcing a fifth and deciding game. The Terps and Blue Devils each failed to convert a match point opportunity, and the score was deadlocked at 15-15. From there, however, the Blue Devils reeled off a pair of points to secure the match.

Maryland returns home to face Clemson Friday at 7 p.m. at Ritchie Coliseum.
