A Syracuse Sweep

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The University of Maryland women's tennis team won five of its six singles matches and all three of its doubles matches and defeated Syracuse, 8-1, this afternoon to improve to a perfect 3-0. This marks the Terps second win in as many days and their third consecutive dual meet victory of the 1999 season. The Terps defeated Minnesota yesterday by a score of 6-3 and won their first meet of the season over Georgetown, 9-0.

Senior Meg Griffin (Topeka, Kan.), juniors Lorraine Bittles (Nashville, Tenn.) and Stacy Walkowitz (Coral Spring, Fla.), and sophomore Chrissie Terrill (Plano, Tex.) all won their singles matches in the No. 1 through 4 positions, respectively. The doubles teams of Griffin and Bittles and Walkowitz and Terrill also picked up wins by scores of 8-5 and 8-2, respectively.

Freshman Courtney Perkins (Seattle, Wash.) picked up the other singles win while the duo of senior Adrienne Pavelko (Vienna, Va.) and Perkins notched the Terps other doubles victory.

The Terps (3-0, 0-0 ACC) do not have another match until Feb. 26 when they will travel to Williamsburg, Va. to face William and Mary at 2:00 p.m. The following day, Maryland will take on Alabama at 11:00 a.m.
