COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland women's tennis team swept both singles and doubles to shutout the University of West Virginia, 9-0, at the Tennis Bubble.
In the top three positions, senior Meg Griffin (Topeka, Kan./Topeka West) and juniors Lorraine Bittles (Nashville, Tenn./Brentwood Academy) and Stacy Walkowitz (Coral Springs, Fla./Coral Springs) were winners. In other singles matches, senior Adrienne Pavelko (Vienna, Va./Bishop O'Connell) and freshman Courtney Perkins (Seattle, Wash./Mt. Ranier) also won in the No. 5 and 6 spots. Griffin and Perkins are both 5-1 on the season.
At the No. 4 position, sophomore Chrissie Terrill (Plano, Tex./The Hockaday School) is still undefeated for the spring season at 6-0. She topped West Virginia's Shannon Price by a convincing 6-1, 6-3 score.
The three doubles teams of Griffin-Bittles, Walkowitz-Terrill and Pavelko-Perkins dominated the Mountaineers. They combined to win the three matches 24-4.
